Call for Artists: Celebrating Asian Creativity
Asian Art Contemporary invites submissions from artists engaging with contemporary Asian perspectives across diverse media and disciplines. This initiative is part of our ongoing editorial program, highlighting artists whose practices contribute to evolving conversations around identity, culture, and contemporary artistic production.
We welcome submissions from emerging to established Asian artists worldwide.

About the Program
Selected artists are featured through a dedicated editorial presentation, including an in-depth interview and a curated selection of artworks, published across our platform and communication channels.
Artists may also be considered for exhibitions, events, and future invitations as guest jurors, contributors, or collaborators within programs organized by Asian Art Contemporary.
Our editorial features are developed to provide thoughtful context around each artist’s practice, positioning their work within broader contemporary discourse while reaching an international audience of artists, curators, and collectors.
Eligibility
- Open to artists of Asian heritage or those engaging with Asian cultural contexts
- All disciplines accepted (including but not limited to painting, sculpture, photography, installation, new media)
- Open internationally
Selection Process
- Submissions are reviewed by the curatorial team at Asian Art Contemporary.
- Submissions are reviewed on a rolling basis. Artists are selected based on the strength of their practice and its alignment with our editorial and curatorial direction.
- Due to the volume of submissions, not all applicants will be selected. Only selected artists will be notified via email.
Submission Fee
A non-refundable submission fee applies based on the selected track and supports the curatorial review and editorial production process.
There are no additional fees required upon selection.
Artists may complete the submission form first. After submitting, a payment link will be sent based on the selected submission option. Submissions are only considered complete after payment is received.
Submission Options
Artists may apply through one of the following editorial review tracks:
Standard Submission — $45
- Curatorial and editorial review of submitted materials
- Consideration for an artist interview feature and presentation of selected works
- Promotion across Instagram, Xiaohongshu, and targeted newsletter distribution
- Consideration for recommendations to exhibitions and events organized by Asian Art Contemporary
Expanded Editorial Submission — $75
Includes all elements of the Standard Submission, with extended consideration for:
- Invitations as guest jurors, contributors, or collaborators within programs produced by Asian Art Contemporary
- Invitations to participate in initiatives and programs associated with the Asian Artist Center
Important Notes
- Applications must be submitted in English.
- Artists are required to submit a portfolio (JPG files of work samples or a website link), artist bio, and CV through the submission form.
- Submitted images must be labeled as follows: Firstname_Lastname_Title_Medium_Dimensions_Year.jpg
- JPG files should not exceed 1MB. A maximum of 5 JPG files may be submitted. Selected artists will be contacted for high-resolution images if needed.
- For video submissions, only works hosted on YouTube and Vimeo are accepted.
- For security reasons, we do not open password-protected sites or download attachments from external links.
- We do not accept submissions via email.

Open Call: Fables in Form (Ended)

Asian Art Contemporary invites submissions for the virtual exhibition Fables in Form, a showcase where contemporary Asian artists explore the interplay between narrative and visual form. The exhibition considers how stories—personal, cultural, or imagined—are shaped not only by their content but also by the way they are expressed through artistic practice. Paintings, drawings, and other works carry traces of memory, gesture, and context, transforming form into a vessel for storytelling.
Contemporary artist Wu Shuang, multidisciplinary artist In Kyoung Chun, and writer & editor Jenny Wang have been invited as jurors for this open call. Their selections will reflect the exhibition’s dedication to presenting diverse approaches to storytelling in contemporary visual art. Fables in Form seeks works that reveal how meaning emerges through the dialogue between story and form, where the artwork itself becomes a site of narrative discovery.

Guest Juror
Wu Shuang (b.1986) is a Chinese contemporary artist who practices Abstract Expressionism. She studied at Kassel University in Germany in 2007 and graduated from the Oil Painting Department of the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in 2009.
Continuing her studies thereafter, she attained her master’s degree from Department of Printmaking at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2014. Wu Shuang has held more than ten solo exhibitions in Tokyo, Taipei, Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai. Her works have been widely exhibited and collected by professional organizations in the U.S. Australia, Italy, South Korea, Singapore and Japan. Wu Shuang currently lives and works in Europe and the U.S.
Wu Shuang’s art possesses a deep international perspective, reflecting her belief in the boundless nature of artistic expression and its ability to resonate universally with humanity. Her works are visually captivating, characterized by a striking interplay of purity and contrasting colors. Through her skillful blending of bright hues, initially conflicting yet ultimately harmonious, she creates compositions that intrigue and inspire. Wu Shuang’s artistic vision seeks to encapsulate the essence of our everevolving world, emphasizing the fleeting nature of light and life. Her passion for travel has led her to explore nearly 40 countries and 100 cities, enriching her art with diverse cultural influences and inspirations. Through her work, she grapples with the profound forces of nature, the rapid pace of change, and the complexities of human emotions, offering a poignant reflection on the joys and sorrows of existence.

In Kyoung Chun is a multidisciplinary artist born in Seoul, South Korea, and currently based in Atlanta, Georgia.
Her work has been exhibited in numerous galleries, institutions, and platforms, including Poem 88, HiLo Press, Dashboard, The New Gallery (Tennessee), Emory University, Sumter Gallery (South Carolina), Stove Works, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, NADA (online), Yi Gallery (New York) and Asian Art Contemporary (New York).
Chun’s works are included in the permanent collections of the High Museum of Art, Goat Farm Arts Center, City of Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs, Atlanta Public Library, Georgia State University, and in numerous private collections, including that of the late master Larry Walker.

Open Call: Situated StorieS (Ended)

This exhibition examines how narratives emerge through context, storytelling, and the application of medium in artistic practice. Contemporary Asian artists worldwide are invited to submit works that engage with this theme—whether through personal histories, cultural memory, or experimental approaches to narrative.
Artist Carol Paik and curator Phil Zheng Cai have been invited as jurors for this open call. They will select works that best embody the curatorial vision of the exhibition and its commitment to presenting diverse voices in contemporary Asian art.
Situated Stories will foreground the multiplicity of ways in which artists situate their narratives, revealing how meaning unfolds through context, medium, and audience.

Guest Juror
CAROL PAIK is a mixed-media artist based in New York, working primarily with repurposed materials. Her goal is to create art from the unappreciated, overlooked, landfill-destined stuff she finds around her, of which there is never a shortage. She is interested in the emotions we bring to the things we discard: nostalgia, guilt, desire, and loss, and her goal is to give these objects–and, by extension, ourselves—new possibilities.
Her work has been shown recently at the Hudson River Museum in Yonkers, NY; Galerie Étienne de Causans in Paris, France; Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition in Brooklyn, NY; Westbeth Gallery in NY, NY; Silvermine Gallery in New Canaan, CT; Yellow Studio Gallery in Cross River, NY; and the SVA Flatiron Gallery in NY, NY.

He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a BA in Social Science, and received his MA from Sotheby’s Institute of Art. He has held posts at Mary Boone Gallery, Phillips Auctioneers, and is currently a partner at Eli Klein Gallery.
Phil Cai’s curated exhibitions have received critical acclaim. His curated exhibition “(In)directions: Queerness in Chinese Contemporary Photography” was reviewed by Hyperallergic, Musee Magazine, Asian American Arts Alliance AMP Magazine, and many others. His curated exhibition “Alienation?” was reviewed by the Brooklyn Rail. He has participated in panel discussions and talks at institutions such as the Asia Society Museum New York, the SCAD Museum of Art, Columbia University, Sotheby’s Institute of Art, among others. His independent curatorial initiative Open Kitchen focuses on systematic critique. Its most recent iteration “Open Kitchen – Fusion” was reviewed by IMPULSE Magazine.
Phil Zheng Cai’s writings are regularly published. His exhibition review “The Estate of Joshua Caleb Weibley at CHART Gallery asks if we still want to play” was recently published in WhiteHot Magazine. His interview with Bojan Stojcic “A Mirrored Interview” was published in IMPULSE Magazine. His exhibition reviews “A Proposal to Live with What Had Been There – Cynthia Gutiérrez at Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil”; “Enacting Disassociation – Jean-Luc Moulène Solo Exhibition at Miguel Abreu Gallery”; “Life as an Invitation – Yoan Capote Solo Exhibition at Jack Shainman Gallery” and critical essay “Take a Step: Phil Zheng Cai on the Opening of M+ Museum” were featured in the Widewalls Magazine.
His translated book “The Story of Philosophy” was published by Shanghai Yuandong Press in 2020. His critical text “Everything can become an NFT, is it true?” was published by the New York Time T Magazine China. His essay “Nomad Photography” was published in the Parsons MFA Photo thesis catalog in 2024.

Peter Drake’s work is held in private, corporate and public collections including the Whitney Museum of Art, Phoenix Museum of Art, MOCA LA, Weatherspoon Art Museum, L.A. County Museum, Microsoft, Kirkland and Ellis and the Progressive Collection among others.
He is the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Award, a New York Foundation Fellowship and is a two-time recipient of the Two Trees Cultural Space Subsidy Program Grant.
His work has been written about in the New York Times, Art in America, Newsday, Huffington Post, Art & Antiques and numerous other publications.
Drake’s “Waiting for Toydot”, a MTA Arts & Design permanent public art commission for the Long Island Railroad (LIRR) Massapequa Station opened to the public in 2015. “Waiting for Toydot” features 18 art glass windows and 5 ceramic/glass mosaics installed throughout the train station and is seen by over 7,000 commuters daily.
He actively lectures, writes and was a curator for The Drawing Center, NYC and wrote for Flash Art Magazine. He served as a board member of the Artist Fellowship, Inc. and has been a jurist for the AXA Art Prize 2018-2025. Drake is the Provost at the New York Academy of Art, a progressive figurative and representational graduate art school in New York City.
Drake maintains an active studio practice in Dumbo, Brooklyn, has had 28 solo exhibitions and is represented by Linda Warren Projects, Chicago / Los Angeles, Healy Contemporaneo, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and Craighead Green Gallery, Dallas.
Peter Drake was born and raised in Garden City, Long Island and lives in Manhattan.

Ami Park, originally from South Korea, currently resides and works in Queens, NY. Her artistic practice centers on textiles, exploring the connections between the human mind, emotions, and objects. She focuses on themes of self-awareness, identity, and perception. Influenced by her immigrant experience, spirituality, and scientific theories, her interdisciplinary approach challenges societal norms and pressures across different cultures. Through her work, she invites viewers to reconsider familiar concepts from new and layered perspectives, debunking subconscious biases.
Park has exhibited her work at the Bronx Museum, MoMA PopRally, KuBe Art Center, Pen + Brush, Czong Institute for Contemporary Art, theBLANC, Asian American Arts Alliance, Chashama, New York Live Arts, the New York Foundation for the Arts, SVA Flatiron Gallery, and RIVAA Gallery, among others. She has been awarded the AIM Fellowship by the Bronx Museum and participated in the Immigrant Artist Program facilitated by the NYFA. Park has received grants from Cerf Plus, The Puffin Foundation, NYFA, and CRNY, and has completed residencies at LMCC Arts Center, Uncool Artist, and the School of Visual Arts. Park holds a BFA in Fashion Design from Parsons School of Design.
Her upcoming exhibitions include a solo show at The Garage Art Center, as well as group shows at the Steinberg Museum of Art in 2025, and a two-person exhibition at the Nars Foundation in 2026.

2026 Internship Opportunity at Asian Art Contemporary
Asian Art Contemporary is a New York–based platform dedicated to showcasing the latest developments and dialogues in contemporary Asian art. Through artist interviews, exhibition reviews, and curatorial collaborations, it connects artists, collectors, scholars, and audiences across cultures while fostering cross-cultural exchange and artistic innovation. The platform has participated in and supported international exhibitions and art fairs such as the New York Art on Paper Fair, Shanghai Horizon International Art Fair, Metropolitan Art Atelier, Kyungsung University, and A Space Gallery, strengthening its mission to elevate Asian artists globally.
Asian Art Contemporary is now seeking creative and motivated interns to support its editorial and curatorial initiatives in 2026, including research, content creation, social media, and event coordination. Ideal candidates are detail-oriented, collaborative, and passionate about contemporary Asian art and cultural storytelling.

Asian Art Contemporary is pleased to announce an open call for submissions to our upcoming virtual exhibition, Mirrors and Masks. We welcome contemporary Asian artists worldwide to submit works aligned with this theme.
This exhibition explores how we present ourselves versus how we see ourselves, playing with the concept of identity, performance, and the masks we wear —whether literal or metaphorical. We seek artworks that delve into the tension between public and private identities, and the personas we construct to navigate societal expectations.

Guest Juror
Jiannan Wu (b.1990) is a China-born, New York-based artist specializing in sculpture. He received his BFA Degree in Sculpture from China Academy of Art and his MFA Degree in Sculpture from New York Academy of Art. He is an adjunct faculty of New York Academy of Art, an Elected Member of the American National Sculpture Society, American Medallic Sculpture Association, and World Economic Forum Global Shaper of Dalian Hub. Through formats of sculpture and wall-mounted relief, he presents the theme of contemporary urban life and social events such as politics and sports with a focus on realism and a playful, satirical, and multifaceted narrative, that can make us realize the often absurd nature of the environment we’re currently living in.
Jiannan Wu is the recipient of the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation grant, winner of the 2017 & 2022 Dexter Jones Award presented by the American National Sculpture Society, and winner of the Compleat Sculptor Award, among other awards. He was selected as “2022 Top 10 Outstanding Chinese American Youth” and “2020 AACYF Top 30 Under 30” presented by All America Chinese Youth Federation. His work is recognized as The Best Original Sculpture in 2019 by Sculpture Magazine of China. In addition, he was selected for the Terra Foundation Residency in Giverny, France (2015), ABC Stone Carrara Merit Award Residency in Italy (2016), West Nottingham Academy Eric Fischl ‘66 Artist-in-Residence (2019), The Swatch Art Peace Hotel artist residency in Shanghai (2023), and Tombolo Artist Residency in NYC (2023). His works have been displayed at numerous exhibitions at renowned venues such as the Venice Biennale in Italy, Sotheby’s, Art Miami, Southampton Arts Center in America, Bonner Kunstverein in Germany, Zhejiang Art Museum, ART021 in China, Gallery Poulsen in Denmark, among others. His works and achievements have been published in The New York Times, The China Press, Metal Magazine, Beautiful Bizarre Magazine, Hi-Fructose Magazine, Collections Magazine, and T(here) Magazine.

Asian Art Contemporary invites contemporary Asian artists worldwide to submit to our Artist Interviews!
Asian Art Contemporary is a premier source for news and insights from the contemporary Asian art world. Based in New York City, it presents dynamic content through artist interviews, exhibition reviews, and curatorial support—connecting art enthusiasts, collectors, and artists alike.
We welcome Asian artists from around the world to showcase their creativity across diverse techniques and mediums on our platform. Featured artists will be promoted across multiple channels, including:
- Our official website
- Social media platforms (Instagram & Xiaohongshu)
- Our curated newsletter sent to art professionals and collectors
Eligibility
- Open to Asian artists worldwide.
- All career stages welcome.
- Welcome all art forms and techniques.
- Original works only.
Submission Details
- Selected artists will be featured in a digital interview with around 6-8 questions about their art practice.
- Only artists selected for the feature will be notified via email.
- Read and follow the application guidelines thoroughly. Applications that do not meet the criteria will be disqualified.
Fees
- Submission is free. Each artist may submit only one application.
- A production fee of $240 will be charged only to those whose works are selected.
How to Apply
- Applications must be in English.
- Submit your portfolio ( JPG files of work samples or website link), artist bio, and CV.
- Submitted images must be labeled as follows: Firstname_Lastname_Title_Medium_Dimensions_Year. jpg. JPG files should not exceed 1MB. Maximum 5 JPG files per submission. Selected artists will be contacted for high-resolution images.
- For video submission, we accept videos posted on YouTube and Vimeo only.
- For security reasons, we don’t open sites with passwords or download attachments from the web.
