2026 Asia Art Archive Annual Fundraiser

Over 50 artworks on auction to support the preservation, connection, and sharing of contemporary art history in Asia.

Asia Art Archive (AAA)’s 2026 Annual Fundraiser features an auction of over fifty works generously donated by artists, galleries, and individuals. The auction brings together significant works by established and emerging artists from Asia and beyond. Proceeds from the auction will support AAA’s ongoing work to preserve and share contemporary art histories in Asia, while strengthening the knowledge, resources, and capacity needed to ensure that these histories remain accessible for generations to come. In partnership with H Queen’s, a preview of the artworks will be open to the public from 22 to 25 October. The works will be available for online bidding at aaa2026auction.com from 22 October at 10:30am to 6 November at 10:30pm.

Since its founding in 2000, AAA has built one of Asia’s most valuable and growing collections documenting the lesser-known histories of modern and contemporary art across the region. As artistic practices become increasingly interconnected and archival needs continue to grow, rapid advances in digital technologies are reshaping how archives are created, managed, and accessed. In response, AAA is expanding its role beyond building its own collections to strengthen the people, partnerships, and systems that enable more of Asia’s art histories to be preserved, connected, and made accessible.

AAA’s dedicated digitisation lab and archiving facility opened in 2025, increasing the organisation’s capacity to preserve vulnerable cultural materials and train future archival practitioners. Over the past year, AAA digitised more than 10,000 records, bringing its freely accessible Library and Research Collections to over 150,000 records. It also hosted professional workshops for more than 180 cultural and archival practitioners from eight countries.

In August 2026, AAA launched the Archiving Handbook, a practical guide designed to support artists and art spaces in preserving their own creative legacies. Introducing fundamental archival principles and workflows, the handbook builds on seven hands-on Archiving Workshops held in Hong Kong, Macau, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Riyadh and Ho Chi Minh City. These workshops brought together practical exercises and discussions spanning technical applications and theoretical approaches. The handbook is now freely available online for independent exploration.

Commencing in late 2026, the two-year project New Archive: Hong Kong at the Forefront of Preserving Arts and Culture will extend AAA’s role as a platform for professional training, research, technological experimentation, and knowledge exchange in digital archiving. Through internships, on-the-job training, international exchanges, expert-led workshops, and educational resources, the initiative will prepare a new generation of archivists and cultural professionals for preservation in the digital age. It will also position Hong Kong as a regional hub for innovation in cultural preservation. The project is supported by the Arts Capacity Development Funding Scheme.

AAA’s 2026 Annual Fundraiser is supported by Altaya Wines, Christie’s Hong Kong, Chubb, Jebsen, and WTW | Willis, along with venue sponsor, H Queen’s, and media partners ArtReview Asia, Art & Market, Ocula, Tatler Hong Kong, The Artling, and The Value.
